The Calico Rock Museum and Visitor Center will be honoring one of its founding board members this month. A reception for Dean Hudson is scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 in the Murphy Gallery of the Heritage and Visitor Center on Main Street. The public is invited, and refreshments will follow.

Hudson and other civic leaders first approached the Calico Rock City Council in 2008 to ask permission to form the Calico Rock Museum. When the request was granted, it was agreed the museum would be located in the back half of the visitor center on Main Street, and it has grown ever since. Under the leadership of Hudson and the other board members, the museum system now includes a heritage and visitor center, an art and science center, an education center, two retail stores and a cafe.

Hudson, his wife Peggy and her parents, Tip and Retha Wiseman, founded White River Health Care in the 1970s, and it continues to operate with Hudson’s grandson Lucas managing the company. The Hudsons also work actively in other organizations including the Lions Club, 20/20 and the Calico Rock Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Calico Rock Museum and Visitor Center is open weekdays from 9:00 to 5:00 and Saturday from 9:00 to 3:00. For more information, go online to calicorockmuseum.com, or call 870-297-6100.
