Cotter takes 2 of 3 over Izard County; Norfork splits with Viola

Cotter picked up two wins in three basketball games at home Friday against Izard County.
The senior girls’ game ended with the Lady Warriors beating the Lady Cougars 52-34. Harley Thomason led Izard County with 15 points, and Laney Rider added 11. The Lady Cougars fall to 9-14 on the season and 3-8 in the 2A/1A-3.
It was a different result in the senior boys’ contest as Cotter fell to Izard County 64-47. The Cougars were led by Caleb Faulkner with 26 points, and Justus Cooper scored 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. Izard County improves to 22-2 on the year, and they remain undefeated in 11 district games.
The evening began with Cotter topping Izard County in the junior girls’ game 34-27. Maddi Rider was the Junior Lady Cougars’ top scorer with 11 points.

Norfork split a pair of high school games with Viola. The Lady Panthers ended up beating the Lady Longhorns 49-24. Norfork did not fare as well in the boys’ contest as they lost to Viola 43-37.

Yellville-Summit’s senior girls had a rough outing as they fell to Valley Springs 78-34. Taylor McFarland led the Lady Panthers with 12 points.

Salem had a split in its high school basketball games with Mammoth Spring.
The Lady Greyhounds took the girls’ game over the Lady Bears 64-54. Mammoth Spring was led by Whitlee Layne with 19 points, Brianna Hocum finished with 18, and Lauren Mitchell had 11 points and 13 rebounds. The Lady Bears drop to 21-6 overall and 3-2 in the 2A/1A-3.
Salem was not as fortunate in the boys’ contest as they fell to Mammoth Spring 41-35. Sagen Godwin was the Bears’ leading scorer with 20 points. Mammoth Spring improves to 12-11 on the season and 5-4 in the district.
Mammoth Spring will travel to Norfork Tuesday to continue district action.

Mountain Home Christian Academy picked up a pair of boys’ victories over Faulkner County Friday at Conway.
The varsity contest ended with the Eagles defeating the Falcons 59-47. Cooper Long paced Mountain Home Christian with 20 points, and Matt Woods chipped in 19.
In the junior varsity game, Mountain Home Christian topped Faulkner County 43-23. The J.V. Eagles were led by Trenton Cox with 21 points, and Stone Robinson added 12.
