Several local school districts will experience changes when classes are cancelled due to winter weather. Mountain Home is among the districts approved by the Arkansas Department of Education of a new status known as Alternative Method of Instruction (AMI).

The AMI status would allow students to engage in learning during inclement weather or emergency days when conditions don’t allow a school to be in session. On AMI days, students will be given digital and/or hard-copy content depending on the school they attend, and the district would not have to make up the day as a result. The status for each day will be determined by school administrators when necessary.

The local districts approved for AMI status in addition to Mountain Home include Cotter, Norfork, Flippin, Yellville-Summit, Ozark Mountain (Bruno-Pyatt, St. Joe and Western Grove), Viola, Salem, Izard County, Melbourne, Searcy County (Marshall and Leslie), Lead Hill, Bergman, Valley Springs, Omaha and Jasper.
