Marion County Collector Cathy Brightwell has announced she is seeking re-election for her current position. Brightwell was elected to the Collector’s position in 1998, beginning her term in 1999. Eleven years prior she began work as Deputy Assessor and held the position for six years before assuming the position of Chief Deputy Collector, where she served for five years.

She is a member of the Arkansas Collectors Association and during her tenure has completed many continuing education courses, through Arkansas Tech University, earning college credit.

Brightwell says the Office of the Collector has a great responsibility and she works hard to maintain good records, to deliver checks and information to the Treasurer in a timely manner, and to help customers as much as possible.

She says she’s seen many changes during her time as Collector. She says just about everything is different including the growth of the county and the increase of tax dollars coming in. The use of computers and the way payments are accepted have changed as well. The Collectors office offers partial payments on current taxes, credit card payments with Visa and Mastercard, public records online with actDataScout, public access computers, email receipts and statements on request.

Brightwell says with her experience she knows how to handle those changes and future changes to come.

She says she’s enjoyed helping the people of Marion County and looks forward to the opportunity to continue that service. If re-elected she says she will do her best for the county and show each citizen fairness, honesty and respect.

Brightwell is the Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Blair Dunlap of Yellville. She is married to Larry “Goose” Brightwell with three children and 10 grandchildren. She and her family attend the Broadway Church of Christ in Yellville.
