Arkansas panel drops plan for road funding measure this year

(AP) - Arkansas highway officials have dropped an effort to
put a road funding proposal before voters this fall and will try again with the state Legislature next year. The state Highway Commission on Tuesday voted to not pursue a ballot measure for the November election and says it will make another push before lawmakers to close the funding gap for state roads. The panel voted last year to pursue a ballot measure, but had not yet endorsed a specific funding plan.

The panel last year left open the possibility of waiting until the 2019
legislative session after Gov. Asa Hutchinson said he'd oppose any proposal that called for tapping into general revenue.
