2 Norfork residents arrested following compliance check

Two Norfork residents were arrested Wednesday morning when Baxter County Sheriff's officers assisted Arkansas Department of Community Corrections officers on a probation compliance check at a residence on Reds Landing Trail. The visit was conducted at the residence of 44-year-old Virginia Ruth Burch and 42-year-old Richard Terry Bearden. The two are on probation.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says during the course of the compliance check, officers found drugs and various items of drug paraphernalia. These included a smoking device containing approximately 14.8 grams of a liquid substance testing positive for methamphetamine. A set of digital scales and other articles of paraphernalia associated with the use or delivery of controlled substances were also found.

Burch and Bearden were arrested, taken into custody, and booked into the detention center.

They each face felony charges of possession of a controlled substance, with purpose to deliver methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation, as well as a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

They each have a bond of $7,500 and were set to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday. There is also a no bond hold on the probation violation charges.
