Local high school basketball teams have mixed results Thursday

Several area high school basketball teams were in action Thursday as the opening round of regional play came to an end in Arkansas.

Melbourne is the site of the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament this week.
The season came to an end for Yellville-Summit’s boys. The Panthers fell to Osceola by a final of 61-45.
The Melbourne girls were able to punch their ticket to next week’s state tournament. The host Lady Bearkatz defeated Corning 71-51.
Valley Springs was eliminated from the tournament in the other girls’ game. The Lady Tigers lost to Hoxie 62-49.

Salem’s girls were one and done in the Class 2A North Regional Tournament at Marked Tree. The Lady Greyhounds were defeated by Earle 55-45.

The Class 1A Region 2 Tournament wrapped up its first round at Armorel.
Mammoth Spring was able to secure a state tournament berth on the girls’ side. The Lady Bears topped the host Lady Tigers 67-46.  Brianna Hocum had a big night with 27 points and 14 rebounds, Whitlee Layne scored 23 and Stephanie Henry added 16 points.  The Lady Bears improve to 28-9.
Calico Rock was bounced from the tournament in the other girls’ game. The Lady Pirates fell to Maynard by a score of 78-73.
The Mammoth Spring boys were not as fortunate as their female counterparts. The Bears were eliminated after Bay posted the 59-48 decision.  Sagen Godwin paced the Bears with 19 points and Chris Cray scored 12.  Mammoth Spring ends the season with a record of 18-16.
The year also came to an end for Calico Rock’s boys on Thursday. The Pirates lost to Rector 57-46.

The Class 1A Region 1 Tournament is being held this week at Alpena.
The St. Joe girls just missed getting a state tournament bid. The Lady Wildcats were edged out by Kingston 58-56.
The other girls’ game marked the end of the season for Western Grove. The Lady Warriors were toppled by the host Lady Leopards 73-42.
Jasper ended up getting eliminated from the boys’ bracket. The Pirates fell to Kingston 61-53.

Two area teams played their first games in the Class 1A Region 3 Tournament at West Side High School in Greers Ferry.
Timbo’s boys fell short of clinching a state tournament berth. The Tigers lost to Wonderview 70-62.
The Rural Special girls are guaranteed to continue their season past this week. In a battle between Lady Rebels, Rural Special defeated Sacred Heart 57-38.

Two local teams resumed district play Thursday in Missouri.
Gainesville’s boys were bounced from the semifinals of the Class 2, District 4 Tournament at Norwood. The Bulldogs fell to Hartville 52-20. Gainesville’s season comes to an end at 16-11.
The Dora girls fell one win short of a state tournament berth. The Lady Falcons lost the title game of the Class 1, District 4 Tournament on their home floor as Bradleyville posted the 62-43 victory. Dora wraps up the year at 17-11.
