A Searcy County man, 30-year-old Miles Scott of St.Joe, has been charged with a felony count of unlawful burning in Boone County.

According to the affidavit for arrest filed Thursday, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office was contacted January 26th advising of a suspicious male lying along the side of State Highway 7 South.

A short while later, Arkansas State Police advised Boone County law enforcement of a suspicious male setting small fires in the woods. Trooper Jason Hutcheson extinguished two small fires in the woods west of a residence in the 6900 block of Highway 7 South. Another fire was then reported in a field behind a residence burning out of control.

A resident reported a man who identified himself as “Miles” walked into his yard earlier in the afternoon, while playing with a cigarette lighter and talking to him. The resident told law enforcement he saw the man later identified as Miles Scott walk off into the woods out of sight. A short time later he saw what looked like a fire burning.

The affidavit notes Scott was located later that evening on the side of State Highway 7 South in the area of the last fire. His actions are alleged to have caused damage to approximately seven acres of pasture and woodland, putting several occupiable structures, people and livestock at risk.

He has a history of violent crimes, including terroristic threatening, aggravated assault and battery. He was also charged with being a habitual offender.

His bond was set at $100,000.
