Norfork falls to Wonderview in state semifinals

For the second year in a row the Norfork High School girl’s basketball team faced Wonderview in the semifinals of the Class 1A State tournament and for the second year in a row the outcome was not good. Brad Haworth has the details.

The hot shooting of Wonderview was too much as the Lady Daredevils pulled away late for a 64-44 win. The turning point of the game occured when, with her team leading by five points, Faith Byers hit a three pointer at the buzzer to end the third quarter. That pushed the lead to eight and Wonderview scored the first five points of the fourth quarter and the five point lead swelled to 13 very quickly and the Lady Panthers were not able to recover.

It was a slow starting game as both teams went over three minutes without scoring to begin the contest. Wonderview built a 7-0 lead but the Lady Panthers came back to tie the gmae at nine and eleven but were never able to take the lead.

Ivy McGowan led the Norfork scoring with 14 points, Macy Dillard scored 13 and Marleigh Dodson added 12 points. The Lady Panthers had their 22 game winning streak snapped as the finish the season with a record of 42-2.

For Wonderview, Byers led a trio of players in double figures with 15 points as they improe to 37-3.
