The Izard County High School boys’ basketball team fell one win short of a state championship Saturday at Hot Springs. The Cougars let a 12-point halftime lead slip away in the Class 1A state title game as they fell to Guy-Perkins 71-66. The Thunderbirds will send retiring coach John Hutchcraft out with his 12th state championship overall, and his career record finishes at 2,013-617. Izard County wraps up the year at 37-4.
