Izard County baseball team wins Big Cat Classic

The Izard County High School baseball team went to Yellville City Park Saturday and left with the championship trophy of the Big Cat Classic hosted by Yellville-Summit.

The Cougars began the day with a 14-3 victory over Lead Hill. Matthew Workman was credited with the win after pitching 4 1/3 innings, striking out five batters and giving up two hits and two runs. Offensively for Izard County, Noah Everett led the way with three hits and three RBIs; Dylan Tharp had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs; and Justus Cooper provided two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs.

The Cougars later took the title by defeating the host Panthers 16-9. Chase Orf was the winning pitcher, and Tharp picked up the save. Izard County’s offense was led by Cooper with a home run and four RBIs, Tharp finished with three hits and four RBIs, Orf and Noah Everett each added three hits, and Coby Everett and Chip Mohlke each drove in two runs.

The Cougars improve to 2-2 on the season.
