Springfield woman gets 3 days in jail for 2016 fatal crash

(AP) – A Springfield woman who fatally hit a man in a
wheelchair with her large sport utility vehicle has been sentenced to three days in jail.The Springfield News-Leader reports that 18-year-old Jordan Neeley-Smith was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of careless and imprudent driving.

Police say Neeley-Smith hit 39-year-old Kendrick Johnson early on Aug. 27,
2016, in a parking lot. Neighbors had said Johnson, who used a wheelchair, was headed to a nearby gas station when he was hit.

Investigators say Neeley-Smith’s Hummer H3 left the street and hit a fence and a concrete culvert before crashing into Johnson. Police say she was speeding at the time.
