Denver Baumgardner, who is currently an inmate in the North Central Unit of the state prison system at Calico Rock, on an earlier conviction, was given six months probation and six months in the Baxter County Detention Center during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court last Thursday.

The jail time will run concurrently with time he is now spending in prison on a parole violation.

The 31-year-old Baumgardner picked up the charges after an Arkansas State Police Trooper attempted to stop him on U.S. Highway 62 West in early October last year.

Instead of stopping, Baumgardner attempted to flee from the trooper. The trooper reported Baumgardner was traveling at a very high rate of speed. At one point, Baumgardner was reported to have passed another vehicle in a no passing zone.

Baumgardner eventually drove into a field, bailed out of his vehicle and fled on foot. He managed to elude the trooper who had to deal with the three passengers in Baumgardner’s vehicle. Baumgardner was picked up later.

According to records maintained by the Arkansas Department of Correction, Baumgardner has been in more trouble inside prison walls than outside.

During the time he was locked up on an earlier charge in 2006-2007, Baumgardner picked up 100 major disciplinary violations. A vast majority were for “individual disruptive behavior” followed by other infractions such as insolence to a staff member, lying to a staff member and being under the influence.

When in prison, Baumgardner has participated in a number of seemingly appropriate programs given his record, such as anger management.
