A Lakeview man, 45-year-old Michael Tiskus, has been arrested after Baxter County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call Friday morning of shots being fired in the direction of a residence along County Road 276 and hitting the home.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says the call was received at approximately 6:46.

The complaining party told investigators Tiskus had come speeding down the roadway in a white van and pulled into his driveway at 252 County Road 276. The complainant then heard Tiskus yelling at others, and then gunshots rang out. Two rounds struck the complainant’s residence. One of the rounds hit the house in the area of his daughter’s bedroom, where she was asleep.

Deputies went to the Tiskus residence, where they found him in the back bedroom armed with a handgun. Deputies took him into custody. Several firearms were found inside the house. Two of the handguns had been recently fired. There were multiple bullet holes in the front door and several holes in the ceiling of a room adjoining the kitchen.

Montgomery says Tiskus was acting paranoid and was hallucinating, believing non-existent people were on the premises trying to kill him. Another person living at the Tiskus residence told investigators he had gone outside on the porch and started shooting. She said Tiskus then came back inside and started shooting in the dining room.

The Lakeview man was arrested and transported to the Baxter County Detention Center where he was booked on two felony counts of aggravated assault, as well as a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief.

Tiskus is being held in lieu of $25,000 bond and will appear in Baxter County Circuit Court to answer to the charges in May.

Deputies seized several firearms, which will be held pending future orders of the court. Tiskus has an extensive arrest history in Illinois and Wisconsin.
