LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP)   An Arkansas Education Department official has ordered a school district to take back a 15-year-old student accused of posting a photo of him holding a gun.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that the decision last week by hearing officer Robert Doyle came despite Vilonia School District officials saying the teen is potentially dangerous to other students and staff.

Doyle’s report states that a psychiatrist from a facility where the boy was admitted said he doesn’t “pose a threat to himself or others.”

The district appealed the decision Monday instead of allowing the special education student to return to his classes at the Freshman Academy.

A lawyer for the boy’s parents has requested the teen be allowed to immediately return to school. The teen has been out of school since March 2.
