BRANSON, Mo. (AP) A Branson man has pleaded guilty to a fatal love-triangle shooting.
The Taney County prosecuting attorney announced Monday in a news release 22-year-old Dakota Claypole has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He initially was charged with first-degree murder in the January 2017 death of 22-year-old Daxton Drake.
The release says both men were romantically involved with the same woman. She told authorities that she was in bed with Drake when Claypole walked up the stairs leading into the bedroom armed with a handgun.
The release says Claypole yelled at Drake and fired in his direction before fatally shooting Drake when he stood up. Claypole was arrested a few miles away after fleeing in Drake’s vehicle.
Sentencing is set for Aug. 3.
