The 2018 preferential primary for Izard County included two county-wide races and a sales tax issue for Calico Rock.

Warren Anthony Skelton won the Democratic nomination for Izard County judge. Skelton garnered 54 percent of the votes to defeat Thomas Ward with 46 percent, and he will face Republican Eric Smith in the general election.

The other county-wide race ended with Earnie Blackley winning the Republican primary for Izard County sheriff. Blackley secured 67 percent of the votes over Carl Russell with 33 percent, and he’ll go up against Democrat Rick Kimble in November.

The citizens of Calico Rock narrowly approved of a one-percent sales and use tax increase. There were 93 votes in favor of the issue for 52 percent compared to 86 against it for 48 percent.
