Rachel Callaway of Mountain Home entered a no contest plea to charges filed against her in two cases and was sentenced to five years probation during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court last Thursday. The 49-year-old Callaway was accused in one case of selling methamphetamine to a confidential informant working with law enforcement on September 13th and 19th last year. According to the probable cause affidavit, Callaway arranged the sales through the use of a cellphone.

The substance sold to the informant field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

In addition, Callaway was charged in connection with an incident in which a purse was stolen. The purse had been left in a vehicle in a store parking lot at Midway. The victim reported the purse contained $500 in cash, credit cards, a cellphone and personal checks.

Attempts to use the credit cards had been made at a gas station and store in Gassville.

Video surveillance showed a woman matching Callaway’s description in the Gassville store. She is reported to have shopped for about 45 minutes and then attempted to use several credit cards to pay for her purchases valued at more than $300. None of the cards would work, and the woman is shown leaving her purchases and exiting the store.

Callaway said she had been given the cards to use by another person and denied knowing they were stolen. Investigators said Callaway had no explanation as to why the name on the cards did not match the person she said gave the cards to her or to anyone associated with the person.

Callaway was only charged with having possession of the cards and attempting to use them.
