A Baxter County jail inmate, who was ordered by a circuit judge to be released from custody on a one-day furlough, has been charged with furnishing prohibited articles after returning to the detention center with methamphetamine concealed on his person.Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says Andrew Lee Beyer of rural Mountain Home has been in custody since April 25th on charges of a probation violation and for non-payment of child support.

Earlier this month the 33-year-old Beyer pled guilty to a number of drug-related charges during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court. He was sentenced to six years probation and ordered to spend two years in one of the Community Correction Centers in the state. Beyer was ordered to participate in a therapeutic program in the CCC designed to help him deal with addiction problems.

During his appearance in circuit court, Beyer requested a furlough to allow him to retrieve his property from a friend’s house and transfer it to his sister’s residence. A reluctant Circuit Judge Gordon Webb approved Beyer’s request.

Sheriff Montgomery says Beyer was granted a furlough from jail custody Monday through a written order from Judge Webb filed with the circuit clerk on June 1st. The sheriff’s office was ordered to release Beyer Monday morning at 9:00, and he was to return to the jail at 3:00 the same day.

After Beyer had returned to the detention center from his court approved furlough, other inmates informed jail staff Beyer had brought methamphetamine back into the jail concealed in a body orifice. It was also alleged Beyer had shared the methamphetamine with another inmate assigned to the same cell.

Investigators relied on video surveillance footage from the jail camera system to gather evidence to support the accusations against Beyer. The other jail inmate who Beyer was accused of providing the methamphetamine to refused to take a drug task when so directed by jail staff.

A bench warrant was obtained to charge Beyer with one felony count of furnishing prohibited articles. The warrant had a bond of $20,000.

Beyer has been booked into the Baxter County Detention Center 12 times since 2015.

Earlier this year, Beyer was arrested in January after the car he was driving was stopped by a Mountain Home police officer. During the stop, a female passenger exited the vehicle and entered a convenience store. Beyer then sped off in the vehicle, hitting a parked vehicle.

The Mountain Home officer gave chase until Beyer’s vehicle hit a curb disabling the car. Beyer then attempted to flee on foot. The officers used a Taser to bring him under control.

Several drug-related items were located, including about 160 grams of marijuana, a substance field testing positive for methamphetamine, digital scales and Hydrocodone pills.

Another traffic stop involving Beyer was conducted in early February in the Midway area. As the officer was attempting to take Beyer in custody, he took off on foot. He was apprehended, cuffed and transported to the Baxter County Detention Center. Methamphetamine was found in the vehicle
