A Yellville man, 42-year-old Jerry L. Lewis, has been charged with a felony count of aggravated assault, along with a misdemeanor count of battery, following an incident at a sawmill located along Marion County 8058.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Tuesday, a man contacted the Marion County Sheriff’s Office last November saying he had been attacked while at the sawmill earlier in the day.

The man told law enforcement Lewis attacked him with a 2×4 piece of lumber, striking him several times with the wood and hitting him in the head with his knee. He said he tried to defend himself by striking Lewis with his fists.

He said the two men ended up on the ground, and he attempted to poke Lewis in the eye to get the Yellville man off him. He said a third individual was able to break up the fight.

The man said he did not know why Lewis attacked him. However, he said Lewis has been acting jealous of him for talking to the Yellville man’s girlfriend.

Lewis was booked into the Marion County Detention Center on Thursday, with bond set at $10,000.
