COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) _ Missouri wildlife officials are reporting a sad ending to
a monthlong effort to capture a wild turkey that had its own Facebook page with
more than 4,000 followers.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports the bird, which became known as Tina
the urban turkey, was struck and killed Friday morning after wandering onto a
Columbia road. Tina was known for approaching people and sometimes blocking
traffic.

But Tom Strother, of the Missouri Department of Conservation, said Tina was
“pretty intelligent” and hid during efforts to capture it. If Tina had been
captured, the department planned to release the bird back into the wild in a
conservation area where hunting wasn’t allowed.

A post on Tina’s Facebook page expressed sadness that the bird’s “environment
turned out to be too urban.”
