Three children under the age of 12 were in a Calico Rock motel suite when law enforcement arrived to arrest a Calico Rock man, and a woman answering the door began yelling, “The cops are here, Carl!”According to the probable cause affidavit, the incident occurred on July 6th when officers from three agencies executed a search warrant at a residence along Pleasant Valley Road in Izard County. While they were unable to locate 55-year-old Carl Marentette in the home, they did find methamphetamine, marijuana and firearms.Deputies had spotted Marentette’s vehicle parked in front of a motel along Highway 56 in Calico Rock. They learned Marentette and a female, later identified as 30-year-old Jamie Hood, had rented a room late the previous evening.

Attempts to make contact with Marentette at the door were unsuccessful. However, with verbal commands, Hood came out into the hallway and then began yelling to warn the Izard County man.

One officer entered the room and found Marentette on the bed. To his left was a closet without a door and an open backpack. The officer could see a pistol handle sticking up and the corner of a baggie. There was also the end of what appeared to be a methamphetamine smoking pipe beside the pistol handle, along with a piece of a white crystalline substance.

With a search warrant, in the backpack officers located a loaded .45 caliber pistol and a loaded .22 caliber revolver. In addition, approximately 3 grams of suspected methamphetamine field testing positive were located, along with drug paraphernalia, two white oblong pills in Hood’s wallet, $241 in cash and a pair of brass knuckles.

Marentette and Hood have been charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, with the purpose to use crystal methamphetamine, along with single counts of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms. His bond was set at $50,000, while Hood’s was set at $20,000.

The three children were released into the custody of their grandparents by Izard County Sheriff Jack Yancey.

In addition to the Izard County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission participated in the arrest.
