Bradley Ray DeWeese, Jr. of Mountain Home was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to the theft of checks, as well as an altercation involving his father and stepmother during which he pushed his stepmother through a window.

The plea and sentencing came during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

DeWeese is already in prison on an earlier conviction. He is listed as an inmate at the North Central Unit of the prison system in Calico Rock.

On November 20th last year, Bradley DeWeese, Sr. came to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office to report the theft of checks taken from his residence between August 1st and November 20th. The elder DeWeese said his son lived at his residence at the time and also had people visit, and the father felt either his son or one of the son’s visitors could have stolen the checks.

Two checks were written on the father’s account at a local business. Both checks were found to have the son’s drivers license number written on them as identification and video from the store shows DeWeese, Jr., along with a female, purchasing items at a register. Store records showed the two stolen checks were used as payment for the items purchased.

On November 23rd, the father reported his son had come to his home to retrieve personal belongings while moving out and had become argumentative and physical. The father said his wife attempted to call 911 to report the disturbance. When DeWeese, Jr. saw his stepmother making the call, he took the phone from her hand and pushed her into a dining room window shattering the glass.

DeWeese, Jr. fled the scene before deputies arrived, but was located and arrested later.

In late November last year, the stepmother filed for an order of protection to keep DeWeese, Jr. away from her residence. She alleged in her affidavit DeWeese, Jr. had punched her, made threats to kill her and burn down the residence in which his father and stepmother lived.
