Man gets probation for stealing from Lakeview woman

Brandon Mays, who lists a Branson address, entered a guilty plea to taking various valuables from a Lakeview residence in May 2016 and was sentenced to six years probation during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

In addition, the 33-year-old Mays was ordered to pay restitution of slightly more than $1,600 and almost $240 representing the cost of extraditing him from Missouri to Arkansas.

On May 15th, 2016, investigators spoke to the victim. She reported her son had brought two friends from the Branson area to her residence located along County Road 276 in the Lakeview area. She told investigators she did not know the name of the two friends.

The friends spent the night, and the victim said she saw them loading items into their vehicle the next morning. She said she saw the pair take a brown colored lockbox belonging to her.

When she mentioned the potential theft to her son after the visitors had left, he said he would attempt to locate the two friends and left his mother’s house in her car.

When the victim did not hear from her son in a number of hours, she called the sheriff’s office.

A check was made on pawn shops and it was discovered Mays had sold a braided gold necklace to a jewelry and pawn shop.

There were a number of items in the lockbox, including prescription medicines, such as hydrocodone, along with a $20 gold piece, valued at $4,000.

It was reported in court Thursday the victim had recovered some of the items, including the gold coin and chain.

A woman in Branson called the victim at one point and reported the man who stayed at the victim’s home was Mays.
