Upon the advice of Mountain Home City Attorney Roger Morgan, an issue of a collapsed billboard off Bomber Boulevard will be referred to Baxter County Circuit Court.

The action came Tuesday evening during a meeting of the city council’s administrative committee.

City Clerk Brian Plumlee says the billboard collapsed in April in the midst of a thunderstorm, with the owner choosing to re-erect the structure in apparent violation of a city ordinance. The ordinance referenced notes “re-erection of an existing sign rendered unfunctional is specifically prohibited as customary maintenance.”

Plumlee says the violation was made known to the owner the following day by city officials, with a code enforcement officer issuing a ticket.

Morgan advised the committee the matter should be referred to circuit court. The committee unanimously agreed.

The committee did not take any action on a second item of business on the agenda regarding interdepartmental fees.
