JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) _ Joplin police say the deaths of two co-workers at a
residential care home are believed to be a murder-suicide precipitated by both
men being involved with the same woman.

Police Capt. Trevor Duncan said 34-year-old Billy Stevens, of Webb City,
attacked 19-year-old Monte Little Jr., 19, with a baseball bat and a gun inside
the home for adults with disabilities operated by The Arc of the Ozarks.

The Joplin Globe reports Little was beaten with the bat before being shot in
the head.

Duncan said it’s not clear what Stevens did immediately after the assault. His
body was found about two hours later in a burning vehicle near Carthage.

Authorities said Thursday Stevens died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the
head. He wasn’t positively identified until Thursday.
