A successful capture of shoplifters at a local store resulted in drug charges being filed against two of the people.

One of those involved, 29-year-old Christopher Wake, who lists an address in West Plains, was in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday, where he pled guilty and was put on probation for six years.

The incident leading to his arrest began July 20th when loss prevention personnel at the store were in the process of dealing with three suspected shoplifters.

The trio was pointed out to Mountain Home Police officers when they arrived on the scene. When the officers made initial contact with the suspects, all gave false names.

When the police asked for official identification Wake was reported to have begun making “erratic movements” and putting his hands in his pockets, even after officers ordered him to keep his hands in sight.

When officers patted down Wake, they felt small baggies in his right front pocket. The baggies contained a white residue. A needle was found in his other pocket. Some of the substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

As the officers were going through the arrest process for Wake, a person passing by told the officers the female in the group — later identified as Misty McBride — had been seen pulling a syringe from her bra and putting it in a large cup she was holding.

The syringe contained a liquid field-testing positive for methamphetamine.

The 33-year-old McBride, who listed an address in Mountain View, Missouri, also appeared in circuit court Thursday. She pled not guilty and was ordered to reappear in circuit court October 4th.
