BEEBE, Ark. (AP) _ A city in central Arkansas is opening a police substation at
a public school campus in response to recent school shootings.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports the Beebe Police Department will
open the substation Friday. The station will be on the Beebe School District’s
main campus, which includes a high school, primary school and district offices.

Police Department Capt. Brian Duke says officers can complete paperwork and
other duties at the station, which will create a stronger police presence on
campus.

District Assistant Superintendent Rick Duff says he came up with the idea
following recent school shootings, including the Florida school shooting that
killed 17 and a Texas high school shooting where 10 people were killed.

The Arkansas State Police will also have a satellite office in the building.
