A Cherokee Village police officer is accused of beating a suspect nearly two years ago and laughing about it. According to Jonesboro television station KAIT, 44-year-old Josh Trivitt was arrested Monday by the Arkansas State Police after a Sharp County judge found probable cause to charge him with second-degree battery.

The charge stems from a lawsuit filed in May on behalf of Randall Veazie of Ash Flat against Trivitt and three other law enforcement officers. The suit alleges Trivitt body-slammed Veazie during an arrest at his residence in November 2016. Veazie also claims all four officers were captured on police video “laughing and mentioning how badly [Veazie] was bleeding.”

Trivitt was released Monday afternoon from the Sharp County Detention Center on his own recognizance.

Trivitt’s wife is also facing criminal charges in an unrelated matter as she stands accused of embezzling over $150,000 from her employer. Mandy Trivitt was charged in April of last year with theft of property, second-degree forgery and fraudulent use of a credit/debit card after investigators claimed she wrote $152,898 in checks on Musick Pest Control. Mandy Trivitt’s case is currently in a continuance.
