Beginning Monday, and continuing all week weather permitting, the Cotter-Gassville Wastewater Department will be conducting smoke tests on the sewer system in both cities. Tim Kelley from the Cotter-Gassville Waste water Department says they will begin testing at 7:30 each morning and continue through the day.

Homeowners are requested to pour water down all drains or plumbing fixtures that are not regularly used in order to fill the P-traps, which will help prevent smoke from entering the house. During the smoke test, you may see smoke coming out of grass, utility boxes, cracked pavement, and more.

The reason cities are conducting smoke testing is to locate problem areas within the overall sewer system. The test identifies the sources of leaks and other problems in a sewer system. The smoke is non-toxic and will not harm humans or pets.

Anyone with questions about the smoke testing in Gassville or Cotter can contact their respective city hall. In Gassville, call 435-6439 and in Cotter call 435-6326.
