A Marion County couple has pled guilty to permitting child abuse in connection with an incident leading to a Summit man receiving a 10-year prison sentence in 2017.

Online court records filed Wednesday indicate 44-year-old Edward Stone Jr. and 37-year-old Sally Stone entered negotiated guilty pleas in Marion County Circuit Court last week and were sentenced to 10 years supervised probation. Possible penalties for the felony charge of permitting abuse of a minor range from five to 20 years in prison and a $15,000 fine.

The Stones were each charged with the felony count following an investigation in March 2017. The charges stem from allegations the two permitted a then 19-year-old Thomas Rudder of Summit to reside in their home for about four months, while sharing a bedroom with a 13-year-old victim.

Rudder was originally charged with four counts of rape and one count of second-degree sexual assault. Court records indicate in August 2017 the rape charges were nolle prossed or dismissed, with Rudder receiving the 10-year prison sentence on the sexual assault charge.
