Green Amp Records/Red River EntertainmentThe KinksDave Davies recently announced that he’ll be putting out an archival solo album of unreleased tracks recorded during the 1970s called Decade this fall, and he’s now debuted the first track from the collection called “Cradle to the Grave” on his official YouTube channel.

The introspective tune, which was  recorded in 1973, is a soaring rock ballad powered by Dave’s raspy, emotional vocals and chiming guitars.

Decade, which is available for pre-order now, will be released on October 12. It features a variety of tunes Davies worked on between 1971 and 1979 that he didn’t present to The Kinks and that pre-dated his first solo album — 1980’s AFL-3603.

“Maybe there could have been a few of the songs that could have been suitable for a Kinks albums, but I didn’t pursue them because [my brother] Ray was really prolific during this period,” Dave tells NME. “And anyway I wasn’t sure whether they were suitable for The Kinks at the time that I wrote them.”

He adds, “Many of the songs weren’t finished productions until this year, when my son Simon produced the album and knocked it into shape and I finished laying down some vocal and guitar parts on a couple tracks.”

In the NME interview, Dave also discusses the status of a potential Kinks reunion, something Ray Davies has told multiple media sources that he’s hoping will happen.

“Ray and I do talk and we have spoken about possibilities,” says Dave. “Hopefully we can put some new music together. We’ll just have to wait and see. Of course I’d always love to play on stage with my brother.”

Asked what he’d most like to do if a reunion could be organized, Davies says, “New album probably, not sure about shows yet.”
