ST. GENEVIEVE, Mo. (AP) _ A judge has approved a confidential settlement in a lawsuit accusing Cape Girardeau School District officials of assaulting a high school student in 2014.

The Southeast Missourian reports the student, Ta’Brea Harris, and her mother, Terry Harris, sued the district, former Central High School assistant principal Cris Kase and athletic director Lance Tollison in 2015.Ta’Brea Harris and her parents, Terri and Tony Harris, testified Tuesday at a hearing in Ste. Genevieve Circuit Court that the settlement is fair and reasonable.

The family alleged Kase and Tollision used excessive force by slamming Harris to the ground when she was in a verbal confrontation with another student.

The men said Harris, who was 14, physically resisted their efforts to restrain her.

The school district didn’t comment on the settlement.
