CRANE, Mo. (AP) _ Authorities say a pickup truck has collided head-on with a
school bus in southwest Missouri, killing the truck’s driver and causing minor
injuries to four students.
The Springfield News-Leader reports the crash happened Tuesday as the bus driver was completing his afternoon route on Missouri 248, about 5 miles (8 kilometers) southwest of the town of Crane. The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the victim as 47-year-old Kelly Vaught, of Crane.
Galena Superintendent Daniel Humble says eight children were on the bus. Four
suffered minor injuries, including cuts, bruises and a concussion. The patrol
says the injured students ranged in age from 8 to 16.
Humble described what happened as a “tragic event” and “freak accident.” He
says there’s no indication that the bus driver was at fault.
