A Searcy County man, 39-year-old Robert Sean Baysinger of Harriet, was arrested Tuesday following a pursuit when he failed to stop at two intersections and later abandoned his vehicle, fleeing on foot.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Thursday, Searcy County sheriff’s deputies were on routine patrol in Marshall when they observed a truck on U.S. Highway 65 with malfunctioning tail lights.

A check of the license plate number with dispatch revealed it did not match the truck. When officers attempted to make a traffic stop, the driver accelerated and fled in his vehicle, failing to stop at two intersections. The vehicle traveled through several city streets before traveling onto Old Highway 27.

The roadway then turned to gravel, as the driver continued to gain speed.

At the intersection of Old Highway 27 and Nixon Heights, the truck passed a car on a section of roadway only passable by one vehicle, forcing the car into the ditch line.

The truck began to fishtail on several occasions as the driver had difficulty controlling the vehicle on the gravel roadway at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit eventually took a turn down a log road before the truck came to a stop. Baysinger then left the vehicle and fled on foot into the woods. He was located about 50-100 yards from his vehicle, hiding in thick brush and was taken into custody without incident.

Baysinger has been charged with felony fleeing, as well as charges of fictitious tags, defective equipment, reckless driving, failure to stop at two stop signs, and improper use of registration.

His bond was set at $15,000.
