CABOT, Ark. (AP) _ Officials say one person has died after a small plane crashed and burned in a residential backyard in Lonoke County.

Arkansas Department of Emergency Management spokesman Dan Noble said Wednesday the unnamed 45-year old pilot died in the single-engine civilian plane.

Noble says the pilot was trapped inside the burning plane when emergency crews arrived at the scene of the crash north of Cabot, about 22 miles (35 kilometers) northeast of Little Rock. It is not clear whether the pilot was alive when rescue crews arrived.

There were no passengers on board the aircraft and no one on the ground was injured.

Noble says weather conditions did not appear to be a factor in the crash. Authorities are investigating why the plane went down.
