Elishah Z. Adams of Mountain Home, who was arrested when police officers were greeted by what was reported to have been a heavy cloud of marijuana smoke in his home, entered a not guilty plea to charges against him during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.Adams’ arrest was triggered when a Mountain Home officer ran a check on the 29-year-old man and found he was wanted for parole violations.

Officers went to Adams’ listed address along East Eighth Street. One of the officers commented on the strong odor consistent with marijuana coming from the front door and, when they entered the residence, they encountered a heavy cloud of smoke filling the entire room.

During a search of the residence, officers found a loaded handgun and a quantity of marijuana. Most of the drug was found in a small safe. Adams refused to give police the combination, but they found it could be opened with a key in Adams’ possession.

Inside the small safe, they found several bags containing 512 grams of a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana. In addition, various items of drug paraphernalia were located.

The serial numbers on the weapon had been removed.

In addition to the criminal charges, the state has filed a civil suit to seize $882 in cash located at the residence.

Adams was ordered to reappear in circuit court Oct. 4th.
