Three MH men plead no contest to possessing contraband in jail

Three Mountain Home men, who are all serving time in the state prison system, were in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday to face charges of possessing contraband items in the Baxter County jail.

Thirty-nine-year-old Eric Gunter, 41-year-old Chadwick Whitlow and 33-year-old Andrew Beyer were all charged with have the contraband items following a sweep of the jail made Aug. 23rd. Each of the men pled no contest to the charges against them.

The list of items found in the possession of Gunter and Whitlow was the longest and included a cellphone, homemade battery pack, tobacco, a small file and piece of metal found in a hole dug into the concrete wall of the building, a length of electrical wire and a homemade smoking device.

Beyer was listed as only having a small amount of tobacco. It was the second time Beyer has gotten into trouble for having contraband in the jail. When he returned from a recent court-ordered furlough prior to being transported to one of the Community Correction Centers in the state, he was discovered trying to sneak methamphetamine into the lockup.

On the recent charges of furnishing prohibited items, Gunter and Whitlow were each given five years in prison with four years suspended. Beyer was given 10 days in the county jail on a reduced charges of obstructing governmental operations. The sentences imposed Thursday will be served concurrently with the time they are spending in prison on earlier convictions.
