A local woman says her dogs were attacked, with one of them being killed, by two other dogs in Mountain Home. According to KY3, Laura Rouse was walking her two dogs in her neighborhood when a black German Shepherd and a brindle-colored dog attacked her shitzu-mix, ESPN.

Rouse says she tried pepper spray, as well as kicking the attacking dogs, to no avail. It wasn’t until a neighbor shot an unloaded pellet gun Rouse and her dogs were able to get away.

Following her escape, Rouse took her dogs to the vet, where one of the dogs, ESPN, died.

Baxter County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Larry Walters says the office has been involved in attacks at least two or three times. The most recent attacks were in 2016, when investigators said they injured one dog, killed another, and dealt with an attacking involving the biting of an 8-year-old girl.

The owner of the dogs that attacked was issued a citation, and the dogs were quarantined for 10 days.

Rouse says the owner of the two dogs that attacked recently showed her proof the dogs were euthanized. However, Rouse said she’d still like to see a change in Baxter County’s vicious dog ordinance. She said she carried a gun for a little while after the attack, but now carries a Taser.

The owner of the two dogs that attacked is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 11th.
