A Midway-area woman was sentenced to two years in prison during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday after admitting she had stabbed her long time live-in boyfriend.

During prior court appearances, 42-year-old Melissa Goodman referred to the man she stabbed as her husband, then said they were not married but had been together 20 years.

Goodman, who is already serving time in prison for an earlier conviction from Benton County, was arrested in March last year at an address along State Highway 126 North in the Midway area.

She is an inmate at the McPherson unit of the state prison system at Newport.

When a Baxter County deputy first arrived at the Midway area address, he was denied entry by Goodman. When he was able to enter the residence, the deputy found the male victim sitting in a chair holding his leg with blood soaking through his jeans.

The deputy seized the knife found clipped to Goodman’s front pocket.

During an earlier court session, Goodman had said her “husband” had come home after a hard day’s work crushing cars, was tired and in a bad mood. She said the couple argued back and forth and the knifing occurred. The “husband” told the deputy Goodman had pulled the knife from her pocket, started waiving it around and ended by stabbing him in the leg.

The stabbing case resulted in Goodman being charged with aggravated assault.
