POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (AP) – A southeast Missouri man is charged with second-degree
murder after allegedly shooting a man and planting a knife in his hand.

KFVS-TV reports 49-year-old Steven Scott of Poplar Bluff died Sunday. Authorities found Scott face-down on his porch, gripping a knife. His wife and 55-year-old David Morgeson also were at the home.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs says Scott’s wife told authorities she and her husband had argued and she contacted Morgeson, who arrived with a rifle.

The wife and Morgeson claimed Scott confronted Morgeson with a knife, prompting
a scuffle, during which the gun went off. But Dobbs says that later, the wife
and Morgeson admitted Morgeson planted the knife after shooting Scott.

Morgeson is jailed on $500,000 bond. He does not have a listed attorney.
