Two Florida residents are in custody in Fulton County following a high-speed chase last week in Salem. One of the suspects, 21-year-old Cedric Camper is facing 45 felony counts and a misdemeanor involving multiple alleged thefts. His bond is set at $100,000.

A Fulton County deputy attempted to stop a vehicle last Tuesday on U.S. Highway 62/412 West. The vehicle had a Georgia license plate, and it belonged to a rental company. The deputy reported the vehicle wasn’t stopping, and he was losing sight of it as it traveled eastbound toward Salem at a high rate of speed.

Another deputy was parked a mile outside of Salem when he observed the vehicle traveling eastbound and began pursuit, and speeds reached over 100 miles per hour. Two more deputies were advised to deploy spike strips and block the road to prevent the vehicle from getting to the stop light in Salem at a high rate of speed. The vehicle came to a sudden stop and was blocked between to patrol vehicles. Three occupants were ordered out of the vehicle and placed in restraints.

During inventory of the vehicle, authorities located an Arkansas license plate previously reported stolen. The vehicle was towed to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, and suspects in custody were identified as Camper and 27-year-old Thomas Hankerson.

On Wednesday, Salem Police Chief Shad Overman received several identifications, checks and debit and credit cards from a citizen who found them on the road where the pursuit occurred. One identification had been reported stolen and was identified as being used at Walmart in Batesville.

The Salem Police Department executed a search warrant on the vehicle and located a black trash bag containing a Social Security card. Several other IDs, credit and debit cards, Social Security cards and a checkbook were located in the glove box. Officers also located several wigs and sets of clothing in the trunk. In all, 18 credit cards, 27 debit cards, 29 IDs and driver’s licenses, 13 Social Security cards, 8 checkbooks, 3 birth certificates and a passport were recovered.

Camper was charged with 18 felony counts of theft by receiving a credit card, 27 felony counts of theft by receiving a debit card and a misdemeanor count of theft by receiving. No arrest affidavit is currently available for Hankerson.
