A Norfork man accused of assaulting a family member is alleged to have provided a fellow inmate with cigarettes while in custody. According to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, 34-year-old Matthew Blair was booked early Sunday morning on third-degree assault on a family or household member, and a count of furnishing prohibited articles has since been added.

A pair of deputies responded Saturday night to a residence in the Lone Rock area for a domestic disturbance. They made contact with a male and female who stated their son, identified as Blair, came into their residence acting aggressive, shouting obscenities and throwing items. They reported Blair entered a bedroom where his father was watching a movie with Blair’s six-year-old daughter and began to shout and curse at him. The father alleges his son shoved him in the chest and shoved a mattress into his body. He said he was not hurt, but he felt his and his wife’s lives were endangered, and there were multiple reports filed over similar incidents.

The deputies made contact with Blair. He said he never shoved his father with his hands, but he did admit to shoving the mattress into his father’s body. During the conversation, Blair reportedly expressed anger toward his parents and threatened to push his father over a cliff.

Blair was transported to the Baxter County Detention Center and booked on the assault charge just after midnight on Sunday. Nearly two hours later, he was sitting on the bench after going through the booking process and waiting to be changed into a jail outfit. He reportedly got up from the bench, walked to a holding cell, handed an inmate a pack of cigarettes and returned to the bench. His actions were allegedly caught on jail video footage.

Blair is free on bond.
