LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) The Arkansas Racing Commission is preparing to draft rules for operating the state’s first fully developed casinos after voters approved a measure to expand gambling in the state last month.
The Arkansas Democrat Gazette reports that the commission must approve the new casino regulations by March 14. The deadline comes just months after the state’s new amendment goes into effect legalizing casinos in four counties, including horse and dog tracks that already offer electronic gambling.
The amendment was legalized in the Nov. 6 election and also allows for casino development in Jefferson and Pope counties.
A public comment hearing will be held once the racing commission approves a draft of the operating regulations.
The commission will then finalize the rules and send them to state lawmakers for final authorization.
