SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP)   A 30-year-old Springfield man who worked as a private tutor has been sentenced to federal prison for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old student.

John Paul Sparapani was sentenced Friday to 30 years without parole, the maximum sentence possible. He was also sentenced to a lifetime of supervised release following incarceration.

Sparapani pleaded guilty in February to using a minor to produce child pornography. He admitted that he took pornographic photos of a student he was tutoring in a private room at a public library.

Officers who searched Sparapani’s home in December 2015 found several images and videos of child pornography.

A 12-year-old female disclosed in August 2017 that Sparapani had sexually assaulted her when she was 10 and 11 years old and photographed the assault with his cellphone.
