No injuries reported in small plane crash Sunday night

A small plane crash occurred on a private airstrip Sunday night in Gassville, resulting in no injuries.

According to Gassville Fire Chief Michael Glotzl, Sunday evening at approximately 7:54, first responders dispatched to a report of a plane crash near Houser Ave. along a private airstrip. Upon arrival, authorities observed a small aircraft had crashed into a wooded area.

During the investigation the pilot, identified as Doug Harrison, told authorities during take off, he didn’t have enough lift. Harrison attempted to avoid round hay bales towards the end of the runway when the plane’s left wing hit an electric pole and was torn away. The plane, identified as a 1969 Mooney M10 fixed wing single engine aircraft, was close to the ground at the time of the crash.

Harrison and his passenger, identified as Tamara Harrison, did not sustain any injuries.

Glotzl states the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will begin investigating the incident Monday afternoon.
