Roger Federer Advances to Australian Open Final

Scott Clarke / ESPN Images(MELBOURNE, Australia) — Roger Federer will have the chance to add another Grand Slam title to his name after beating Stan Wawrinka Thursday to advance to the Australian Open final.

The No. 17 seed beat Wawrinka, ranked fourth in the world, in five sets: 7-5, 6-3, 1-6, 4-6, 6-3.

The win marks Federer’s sixth time going to the Australian Open final and his 28th overall Grand Slam final. It also comes after the 35-year-old took off the last six months of 2016 to recover from an injured knee.

Federer hasn’t won the Australian Open since 2010, when he went up against Andy Murray. This time around, he’ll either face Rafael Nadal or Grigor Dimitrov. The two play Friday in Melbourne.
