A warrant has been issued for a Theodosia man accused of driving while intoxicated after he crossed the center line and hit another vehicle head on, causing the driver of the other vehicle to be airlifted to a hospital with injuries.
Ozark County Times reports, 30-year-old Albert L. Stanford is charged with felony second degree assault when operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated resulting in injury.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper Britt Clements says the officer determined Stanford was traveling northbound on Highway P, 5-miles south of Theodosia when he lost control, crossed into the other lane and hit an oncoming vehicle driven by 58-year-old Mark Vincent Layette of Theodosia head on. Clements says, the excessive speed caused the engine of Layette's vehicle to be knocked loose and the vehicle to travel almost 100-feet uphill from the original area of impact.
Stanford was reported to be driving on a suspended license as well as having a blood alcohol content of .128 percent. It is illegal to have blood alcohol content of 0.8 percent or higher when operating a vehicle.
