Western Grove boys among junior high teams winning district titles

The 1A-1 East Junior District Tournament came to an end Saturday in Jasper. Western Grove breezed its way to the boys’ championship by routing Deer 50-19. Omaha lost the girls’ game to the host Junior Lady Pirates 43-22.

Izard County was able to sweep the finals of the 1A-2 Junior District Tournament at Viola and hand Concord its only losses of the season.
The Junior Lady Cougars needed overtime, but they were able to get past the Junior Lady Pirates 41-38. Makensie Yancey led Izard County with 16 points, and Quinn Johnson added 14. The Junior Lady Cougars finish the year at 22-2.
Izard County followed with a 48-37 victory over Concord in the boys’ game. The Junior Cougars were led by Kasen Black with 13 points, and Garrett Dillard and Noah Mosley each chipped in 12.

Mammoth Spring’s girls lost the championship game of the 1A-3 Junior District Tournament on their home floor. The Junior Lady Bears fell to Marked Tree 45-25.

Bergman’s girls left Green Forest with the championship trophy of the 3A-1 Junior District Tournament. The Junior Lady Panthers beat the host Junior Lady Tigers 46-35.

On the high school level, the Yellville-Summit boys got an easy win to open the 2A-2 District Tournament at Flippin. The Panthers pounded Haas Hall-Bentonville 58-25.

Cotter’s girls clinched the No. 2 seed for the upcoming district tournament. The Lady Warriors got past Yellville-Summit 53-47.

Valley Springs was able to win both battles between Tigers at West Fork. Valley Springs took the boys’ game 60-55 and the girls’ contest 52-49.

Omaha’s girls got an easy win at home, as they destroyed another group of Lady Eagles from Mount Judea 66-7.
