Thadeus James McBride of rural Mountain Home, who was charged with firing a handgun in the direction of Baxter County deputies on March 16th, was sentenced to six years probation after pleading guilty to charges stemming from the incident during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

According to court records, deputies were called to a residence on Fieldwood Lane regarding a suicidal person at that location. They found the 43-year-old McBride seated outside the residence in a cloth camping chair. According to court records, as the deputies approached, McBride raised a black handgun and pointed it at the officers before placing it against his own temple.

As deputies attempted to speak to McBride, he discharged three rounds from the handgun in what was described as the “general direction” of the deputies.

He eventually put the gun down on the ground and it was seized. McBride then began verbally threatening deputies and a stun gun had to be used to bring him under control.

According to a Baxter County Sheriff’s Office incident report, McBride continued drinking a beer during the confrontation with officers as well as a brown liquid from a mason jar that was later identified as “apple pie moonshine”.

A family member said that McBride had “mental issues”, was under treatment and had a previous suicidal incident in his past.
